Athletics Mental Health Counselor

Katie joined the University of Maryland Sport Psychology Department in January 2026. She returns to Maryland after previously serving as a Resident Athletic Trainer from 2013–2014, an experience that shaped her path into clinical mental health care.

Katie brings over five years of experience in a private mental health practice in Portland, Oregon, in addition to providing consultation and educational programming for collegiate athletic departments. Her combined training and experience in athletic training and clinical mental health counseling supports a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to athlete care within sports medicine.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Greensboro College, where she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team, and her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University. Katie is an active member of the American Counseling Association, Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association, Alliance of Social Workers in Sports, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Katie resides in Baltimore City with her husband, Grant, and their dog, Howie.
