SHAC Applications are now open to join in Fall 2026!
The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) acts as a student voice for the University Health Center staff and administration.
SHAC members are available to listen to your comments, suggestions, complaints, or compliments about the University Health Center. SHAC also monitors and regularly reports on the University Health Center’s on-going American College Health Association Patient Satisfaction and Assessment Survey. SHAC works closely with the Director of the University Health Center to help resolve any complaints. Aside from their liaison duties, SHAC gets involved in some outreach programming to support campus wellbeing.
SHAC members participate in a variety of UHC committees and plan health related events for the campus community. In addition, SHAC members participate in outreach activities and programming such as the First Look Fair and Maryland Day.
SHAC meets weekly on Tuesdays from 5-6 PM in person.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The DEI subcommittee works to identify and address healthcare disparities by collaborating with UHC leadership to promote equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive care for all students, with a focus on underrepresented communities.

Mental Health
The Mental Health subcommittee promotes student mental health and wellbeing by raising awareness of UHC services like psychiatry, medication management, substance use intervention (SUIT), and crisis support, while also advocating for improved access and understanding of available resources amid changes to on-campus therapy services.

QMIT (Quality Management Improvement Team)
The QMIT subcommittee analyzes student feedback from the Patient Satisfaction Assessment Survey (PSAS) and works with UHC’s Quality Management and Improvement Committee to recommend data-driven strategies that improve patient experience, access, and service delivery.

Sexual and Reproductive Health
The Sexual and Reproductive Health subcommittee advocates for inclusive, affirming, and accessible sexual and reproductive care by partnering with UHC providers to identify service gaps, enhance patient education, and support comprehensive offerings ranging from STI testing to gender-affirming healthcare.

Preventive and Primary Care
The Preventive and Primary Care subcommittee works to enhance student access to routine, acute, urgent, and chronic care services by promoting immunizations, health education, and preventive resources in collaboration with UHC’s Primary Care, Acute Care, and Immunization departments.
