Appointments

The Health Center operates primarily on an appointment-based system. We strongly encourage patients to make an appointment before they arrive.

Appointments are often available and can be made by calling 301-314-8184 between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Some appointments can be made onlinePlease note: Fees apply to missed appointments or late cancellations.

If you are experiencing severe pain, bleeding, shortness of breath, chest pain, or other signs of severe distress, do not attempt to make an appointment via the web.  Call the University Health Center at (301) 314-8184 or come in to be triaged. 

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.

Appointment Services

Making an Appointment

Schedule many medical appointment types online at myUHC.umd.edu. To access myuhc, you will need your University Directory ID, Password and your University ID Number. You can also change or cancel appointments on myuhc. If you don’t find your desired appointment type, please call the Health Center at (301) 314-8184.

Please call (301) 314-8106 to make an appointment in our Mental Health Department.

Acute Care Services

We strongly encourage patients to make an appointment prior to visiting the Health Center, but Acute Care Services are available for patients who do not have an appointment and have an urgent medical condition including, but not limited to:

  • an asthma attack or trouble breathing
  • chest pain
  • allergic reaction
  • dehydration
  • high fever
  • urinary tract infection
  • bone or joint injuries

Patients will be assessed and depending on the severity of the problem, may be seen on the same day by a clinician. Urgent cases always take priority. Patients who are seriously ill or injured may be sent to the emergency department of a local hospital.

Behavioral Health Appointments

Please call (301) 314-8106 to make an appointment in our Behavioral Health Service.

Cancelling Your Appointment

Cancellations can be made at myUHC.umd.edu. or by calling  (301) 314-8184.

You must cancel within:

  • 4 hours for a medical appointment
  • 24 hours for Behavioral Health, Acupuncture, Massage, Physical Therapy, Travel, Nutrition, Smoking Cessation, or Health Promotion and Wellness Services appointments
  • 72 hours if your acupuncture or massage appointment is on a Monday.

If you miss or cancel your appointment late, that appointment is then not available for another patient in need.  You will be assessed a fee for missed appointments or late cancellations. 

Appointment Reminder System

Patients can now receive an appointment reminder via text messaging! If you are interested in receiving an appointment reminder 1 hour before your scheduled appointment, please provide the Health Center with your cell phone number and carrier. You can also provide this information when you make an appointment or the next time you check-in at Registration. Registered students can also add this information via the secure patient portal at myUHC.umd.edu.

Appointments for Alumni and Visitors

Appointments can be made by calling (301) 314-8184.

Alumni and visitors may be eligible to use some University Health Center services. Alumni lose access to the MyUHC.umd.edu portal once Terp email is deactivated by the University or you are no longer registered for classes.
