The Physical Therapy Clinic at the University Health Center is an orthopedic outpatient clinic that treats a range of musculoskeletal and sporting conditions such as:

  • Pre and post-operative rehabilitation
  • Postural issues
  • Headaches, neck and back pain
  • Sprains and strains

Physical therapy services are available to all students, faculty, and staff members by appointment only. To make your initial appointment you may call the appointment line at 301-314-8184.

    Before You Visit

    • You need a signed and dated Physical Therapy referral/prescription from a physician (MD, DO), physician's assistant (PA), nurse practitioners (NP), dentist (DDS) or podiatrist (DPM). Make sure you make your appointment within 60 days of the date the referral was written. If your referral is past the 60 days, you may call your doctor for an updated referral.

    • If you do not have a referral, you may want to make an appointment with a medical provider in the Health Center or with your personal physician.

    Health Insurance

    • For students covered by the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), charges are fully covered.

    • For any other health insurance company, we do not provide direct billing.   All charges are the patient’s responsibility. You should call the insurance company to determine whether UHC physical therapy services are eligible for reimbursement. Upon request, we do provide a “Walk Out Statement” for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

    • If your insurance does not cover costs, you may still be seen and charged as Self-Pay with a student discount rate.  Office visit discount rate applies to registered students only. Fees vary based on the type of visit and procedures done during the visit.

    Your First Appointment

    • Make sure that you pack or wear proper clothing that allows exposing the area of concern.
    • Arrive at least 20 minutes early and stop by registration before walking down to the basement.
    • Upon arrival provide your referral and fill out the new patient’s paperwork.
    • The physical therapist will review your history and perform a full assessment that will be discussed with you.
    • Any follow up appointment will be scheduled in the PT clinic.
