Multidisciplinary Sports Medicine Staff serving the broad spectrum of physically active campus students and staff focusing on promoting health, exercise, and sports performance.

The University Health Center offers comprehensive sports medicine services for the University community including Intercollegiate Athletics, Club and Intramural Sports, Performing Arts, Eppley Recreation Center, and recreational students, staff, and faculty. 

We specialize in sports and exercise-related injuries with an emphasis on identifying, treating, and preventing injury recurrence. We help individuals maximize function and achieve optimal health and performance goals through a non-surgical approach, using evidence-based medical practice and sport-specific rehabilitation. Our staff provides individualized health care to get you back to an active, healthy lifestyle, without discomfort or risk of re-injury.

Services

Sports medicine-trained physicians provide annual physical exams, daily health care services with onsite clinics, injury evaluation and treatment plans, referral surgical care, return-to-play clearance, and game coverage for University of Maryland students participating in intercollegiate athletics.

Licensed Athletic Trainers provide day-to-day health care to all sports teams participating in intercollegiate athletics and intramural/club sports. This includes injury prevention programs, injury assessment and management, rehabilitation, daily treatments, recovery strategies, bracing, and emergency care, and are present at intercollegiate sports practices and games.

The sports dietetics staff provides the following adjunct nutritional services to the intercollegiate student-athletes:

  • comprehensive nutritional assessments
  • injury recovery plans
  • meal planning
  • team education
  • sweat rate testing
  • vitamin supplementation oversight
  • body composition testing as part of the sports medicine team. 

Our on-site behavioral health providers provide direct care to foster mental health and well-being for student-athletes while managing campus and community referrals. 

Licensed Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists provide onsite evidence-based rehabilitation, postoperative care, corrective exercise, pain management and follow-up injury treatment. 

Chiropractors are on-site and provide a full spectrum of care for the student-athlete including restoring function, reducing pain, and improving movement through soft tissue and manual therapy techniques that lead to injury resolution and improved performance.


Facilities

The sports medicine performance staff work in four main facilities to provide sports medicine care and services. These facilities have first aid equipment, hydrotherapy services, rehabilitation tables, various rehabilitation modalities, exercise equipment, casting, splinting, taping areas, recovery modalities, treadmills, stationary bikes, and staff offices. In additional. These facilities include:
