Adam Younoszai, D.O. (He/His)
Dr. Younoszai was born and raised in Minnesota. He received his undergraduate degree from Hamline University, a small private Liberal Arts university in Sr. Paul, MN. From there he moved to Washington, D.C. to study at American University, where he obtained a Masters Degree in General Psychology. He had planned to obtain a PhD in Clinical Psychology but decided to pursue a career in medicine instead. To do this, he moved to California, where he obtained his medical (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Originally planning to specialize in Gastroenterology via an Internal Medicine residency program, he ended up following his original interest in the Mental Health arena. He therefore moved back to Washington, D.C. to complete internship and residency programs in Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center.
With his medical training completed, he began a relatively long career in the hospital systems, first at the DC VA Medical Center, and then at Washington Adventist Hospital (which later became White Oak Medical Center). During the majority of his hospital work, he served in the role of Medical Director of Behavioral Health Services which included Inpatient Psychiatry, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs), Outpatient Mental Health Services, and Psychiatric Consultation and Liaison (C&L) services.
Dr. Younoszai was then recruited to join the University of Maryland, despite never having been on the UMD campus prior to that time. Here at UMD he serves as an Assistant Director of the University Health Center (UHC) and is Director of Behavioral Health Services there. Dr. Younoszai's interests include travel, exercise, and taking walks on campus if/when he is able. He also tries to maintain a good sleep schedule, and informs his patients about the importance of sleep in daily life.
