Binali Mehta, MD

Psychiatrist

301-314-8106

Dr. Binali Mehta is an adult psychiatrist with over twenty years of clinical experience treating a wide variety of mental health disorders. She approaches each patient holistically, conducting a comprehensive assessment that includes one’s medical history, social and cultural background, prescription records, and mental health concerns. Kind and nurturing, Dr. Mehta listens carefully to each patient, and develops a plan that encourages patients to incorporate self-management such as nutrition, sleep, and exercise in addition to prescribed medication and psychotherapy. Patients appreciate her sense of humor and attention to detail, finding her compassionate and easy to talk to. When medication is recommended, she takes the time to review the benefits, potential side effects, and purpose with the patient so together they can make an informed and collaborative decision. Her goal is to help each patient reach their optimal functioning while reducing suffering.

Areas of Expertise:

Dr. Mehta specializes in the evaluation and ongoing treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. She has successfully treated adult patients of all ages, and worked extensively with college-aged students, patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). She is familiar with first-generation and immigrant populations, which gives her a greater sensitivity to the impact of family and cultural background on mental health. Well-trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and exposure treatment for anxiety, she understands which medications best complement therapy and collaborates with therapists and other health providers to ensure optimal care.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Mehta received her Medical Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her residency at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, she completed training in CBT at the Cognitive Therapy Center in Atlanta. She is board-certified in psychiatry and has worked in several different clinical settings including hospitals, outpatient private practice, and the Trauma Services and Mental Health Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Washington, DC. She is passionate about the field of psychiatry and keeps up to date on the latest clinical developments.
