The HEAL Line and COVID-19 Information
What is the HEAL Line?
Updated: September 2024
The HEAL Line is a phone, online chat, and text information line available for students or employees who have questions related to a recent positive COVID test, exposure, or symptoms. The HEAL Line's virtual assistant provides information by text and voice. The HEAL Line is also staffed by University Health Center employees who can answer questions when more detailed guidance is needed.
Podcast: Any Questions?
Why this podcast? Why these Topics?
We choose to highlight themes that aren't usually talked about in the wellness presentations that we deliver on campus. That's because a lot of wellness topics, and the topics we discuss in this podcast, may be a bit more nuanced, complex, or are sometimes difficult discussing in a short presentation or a group setting.
Students with Underlying Health Conditions
The University Health Center (UHC) is committed to supporting students with underlying medical conditions.
If you have an underlying medical condition or are immune-suppressed, we recommend that you visit UHC to connect with one of our providers, even if you have a primary care provider (PCP) or specialist at home. This allows you to have an ongoing relationship with a UHC provider in the event that medical issues come up and your PCP or specialist can’t be reached.
Parents and Families
Welcome to the University of Maryland community! Parents and families have an important role as students learn to take great care of themselves. We encourage parents to coach their students toward making wise health choices and through getting health care, when needed.
Men's Health
Regardless of your gender identity, if you have a penis, testes, or a prostate, we encourage you treat them to routine wellness exams and problem-focused care when needed.
Flu Shots
Flu shots are available by appointment. Visit myuhc.umd.edu to book an appointment online.
Women's Health
Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate women as well as faculty and staff are eligible for Women's Health Services. Women's Health is staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are trained in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of healthy patients as well as those with common problems.
Regardless of your gender identity, if you have a uterus, vagina, or breasts, we encourage you treat them to routine wellness exams and problem focused care when needed.
Free Emergency Contraception and Pregnancy Tests
Emergency Contraception (EC) reduces the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse. Common situations in which EC could be used include forgetting to take several birth control pills in a row, having a condom break or slip off, or not using a birth control method during sex.
Free emergency contraception and free pregnancy tests are available at the Health Center Pharmacy.
