Dear University of Maryland Community:
We want to inform you of a recent case of tuberculosis (TB) identified in a member of the UMD campus community. The individual has received treatment and is recovering at home. TB is a serious but treatable illness with a low risk of transmission in most casual contact situations.
The Health Center operates primarily on an appointment-based system. We strongly encourage patients to make an appointment before they arrive.
The University Health Center primarily serves the University of Maryland population. Alumni and visitors are eligible to use some Health Center services.
Alumni and visitors are encouraged to make appointments with their own Primary Care Physician (PCP), especially for routine services and continuing care.

Before scheduling an appointment, patients should contact their insurance company's member services department to ask if medical services at the Health Center would be considered for coverage. The number to call can usually be found on the back of the insurance card.
The Health Center staff would be more than happy to assist with any insurance or billing questions.
