UHC Operations

The University Health Center is deeply committed to caring for our students. Below is an overview of our operations for the 2023-2024 academic year.

To all patients and visitors: 

If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, please notify staff at the front entrance and immediately proceed to the registration desk for assistance.


Fall/Spring Hours*

Some services (Behavioral Health Services, CARE to Stop Violence,  Wellness Services) may operate at additional hours.

Limited primary care appointments are available on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00pm - 7:00pm and may be scheduled by phone. Call the UHC at 301.314.8184.

*Services after 5pm and Saturday hours are limited to acute care and emergencies. X-ray and Pharmacy services are not available after 5pm. Laboratory services are limited after 5pm. 


Fall/Spring UHC Operations

  • Though not required, anyone experiencing upper respiratory, cold, or flu symptoms is advised to wear a mask during their visit. 
  • If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or if you have reason to believe that you may have COVID-19, although it is not required, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you use a self-test kit before coming to the UHC. Free self-test kits are available at the UHC while supplies last (limit 2 per person).
  • If you test positive, please notify our staff immediately before your arrival, so that we may take the proper precautions to keep our staff and fellow patients safe during your visit. 
  • The After-Hours Nurse Line is available when the Health Center is closed by calling  301-314-9386
  • If you do not feel well or have a chronic or underlying health condition, please seek medical guidance as soon as possible.

Services, programs and activities


The Health Center Pharmacy serves our students and employees.

If you need to contact the pharmacy outside of normal hours please leave a message on the voicemail at (301)-314-8167 and the messages will be check at the open of business each day.  Make sure to include a call back number and University ID number on the message.

For Prescription Transfers out of state please call (301)-314-8167 and leave a message with the following information and we will complete your request.

Behavioral Health Services

Current University of Maryland students are welcome to call the Behavioral Health Service for mental health concerns.  Some telehealth appointments are available. Please note that students must be physically present in the state of Maryland to receive telehealth services.

Current patients may contact their therapist, psychiatric nurse practitioner or psychiatrist by leaving a secure message for them through their myuhc.umd.edu health portal, or by calling the Behavioral Health Service at (301) 314-8106.

If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, please call 911 or to your nearest hospital emergency department. 


GYN & Reproductive Health Services

UHC is currently providing Sexual Health services in-person, by phone, and through secure message. The fastest and most direct way to speak with your provider is to secure message them directly through the MyUHC portal. If you prefer to call and speak with someone to be triaged, call:

GYN & Reproductive Health Services:

Birth control starts (pills, depo, ring, patch): We are now able to place IUDs or Nexplanon Implants. Birth Control starts and refills may be obtained through appointment. which can be made online at myuhc.umd.edu or by phone. 

Birth control refills (local and out of state online extensions are available, arrangements can be made for UHC Pharmacy pick-up)


  • for vaginal symptoms (including STI symptoms), abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, UTI, etc.
  • for breast concerns 
  • Abnormal pap test follow-up, including colposcopy
  • Asymptomatic (no symptoms) STI checks may be handled over the phone

Sexual Health Services:

  • STI (symptomatic and asymptomatic)
  • Genital symptoms (including pain)
  • Urinary problems

For NON-URGENT advocacy services: Please email us at uhc-care@umd.edu. This email will be monitored throughout normal business hours (9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday).

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the following events will take place virtually: 

Wednesday, April 29th: Participate in Denim Day by posting photos in your denim online and using the hashtags #DenimDayUMD #RaiseYourVoiceUMD to be entered in for a Grubhub giftcard raffle! 

Thursday, April 30th: Online Trivia at 8pm - Look for the link to register on our social media accounts! There will be raffles and prizes!
